Snakes will not ask for our help. They cannot lobby. They exist where healthy food webs and functioning landscapes remain. When myths and hunting remove snakes from the system we lose more than a single species. We lose resilience, pest control, cultural nuance, and part of the planet’s capacity to regulate itself. Will we continue to treat snakes as either monsters or commodities, or will we reframe our relationship with them and apply science, policy, and local wisdom to restore balance? The choice matters for biodiversity and for people who depend on healthy ecosystems.
